Pentecost Sunday, May 31 (Remember to wear red!)

May 26, 2009

Join us Sunday, May 31 for Pentecost Sunday, the day we celebrate the gift of the Spirit and the birth of the church. As in the past we will wear red to symbolize the giving of the Spirit.

Pentecost (Fiftieth day) is celebrated 50 days after Easter. For the people of Israel the feast of Pentecost is celebrated at the end of the harvest season and reaffirmed God’s covenant with Israel. For those of our tradition Pentecost is centered on the work of God’s Spirit in our daily lives. So, as we look forward to Pentecost, come wearing red and be excited about how the Spirit will move among us in this place.
