Combined Worship Services

July 4 through September 19, 2010

Your church leadership wishes to invite everyone’s participation in a worship experiment, combining our two services into one service this summer. There will be a single worship service at 10:00 am on Sundays followed by the Summer Forums and Sunday School at 11:15 am. Please contact the church office for more information at 503-228-9211.

Fellowship with refreshments begins at 9:30 am in the Atrium Area. All are invited to come and mingle with the church family prior to service, and again after service at 11:00 am before the forum begins at 11:15 am.

Living Well with Chronic Conditions – Starts September 2

A six-week workshop for people with asthma, diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, and other chronic health conditions. This workshop starts on Thursday, September 2 from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm at First Christian Church. All Church Retreat

Eagle Fern Camp, Estacada

The annual All Church Retreat is scheduled for Friday, September 10 through Sunday, September 12 in beautiful Estacada, Oregon. Join us for a weekend of worship, fellowship, games, skits, and much more. The forms to sign-up are located on the table in the Narthex. PSU Student Opera – September

The PSU Student Opera group has been rehearsing at First Christian Church, six days a week, during the month of August for their performance of The Marriage of Figaro. Lets continue to strengthen our bonds with, and support, this talented group by going to the Opera! Performance dates are September 3,8,10, & 11 @ 7:30 pm and September 5 @ 2:00 pm. It is being held at the Portland Actors Conservatory, 1326 SW Montgomery St., Portland. Tickets are $7.00 – $12.00 and may be purchased at PSU Box Office 503-725-3307 or Ticketmaster.com and at the door.

Portland Fine Arts Guild at FCC – August 7-8

The Portland Fine Arts Guild will be holding a show and sale of artworks in the First Christian Church Courtyard from 9:00 am through 4:00 pm Saturday and Sunday August 7-8. Members will be painting on site, and have original artwork, prints, and note-cards, for sale, commission proceeds to the church.

World Outreach Meeting – July 28

The next meeting of the World Outreach team is set for Wednesday July 28 at 6:30 in the Library. At their June meeting team members began the process of developing an action plan to support the Global Ministries designation of Being a Global Misssion Congregation. This involves the sharing of ideas and developing a plan around the key theme words of “prays, educates, seeks justice, receives, gives, sends and grows”.

“We” in Wednesday, July 14

This quarter’s “We” in Wednesday is a Vacation Bible School (VBS) theme. “We” in Wednesdays are for the whole church family…singles, married, kids, youth…all of us. It is a time for fellowship and some learning together. There will be a cookout and everyone is asked to be bring a salad, side dish, or a dessert. Then there will be time for all ages to experience their own VBS time. It should be a blast for all. Please mark this on your calendar and plan to attend!

Indoor Labyrinth Walk – Every Third Sunday of the Month

Our 7 circuit labyrinth, as well as information to guide you, is in our Fellowship Hall on the second floor of the Tower. Brochures are available in all the information areas. The labyrinth is open to everyone on the third Sunday of every month from 6:00 – 7:00 pm, immediately preceding our 7:00 pm Taize Service in the Sanctuary.

Use of the labyrinth other times can be arranged by calling the church office at 503-228-9211.

Meander the city on bikes and walk indoor and outdoor labyrinths. Meditative and playful. Bring a sack dinner to eat on the way. Before the ride, we welcome you to visit PSU’s Spiritual Life Center. The ride will culminate at First Christian Church with an indoor Labyrinth walk and refreshments.

Book Group – Tuesday, June 15

The book for June is “Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal” by Christopher Moore. The Book Group will meet at the Schlessman home on Tuesday, June 15 at 7:00 pm. In July the Book Group is having a potluck BBQ at the Clendenin’s home. There is not a book for July. The Book Group extends a welcome to anyone interested in attending the group.

Have you noticed that our church has lots of events that include food? Have you also noticed that the same few individuals seem to be setting up, serving & cleaning up at these events? Many of us might be willing to step into this hosting role, but are not sure of how things work in the kitchen. Judy Wright and Karen Hahn are here to help! They are teaching Kitchen 101 on Saturday, June 19 at 9:30 am…in the Kitchen! You will learn where to find and store supplies, how to make coffee, how to use the stove/ovens, how to operate the dishwasher and get answers to all of your questions. There will be something to eat at the training so please call the church office to sign up at 503-228-9211 so we can plan accordingly. See you in the kitchen!
