Movie Premiere – A Second Knock at the Door – Saturday, June 16 @ 6:30pm

May 4, 2012

On Saturday, June 16th at 6:30pm, First Christian Church will offer the first event of our new film series. We are especially proud and honored that our first selection is an award-winning documentary filmed and edited by one of our own members, Travis Edwards, son of Teri and Dirk Edwards.

A Second Knock at the Door, offers a rare glimpse into the lives of the families of American military personnel killed by “friendly fire.” Through interviews and investigative reports, this film explores key incidents that forced families of the fallen to embark on individual but integrally linked quests for the truth after the Army attempted to hide reality within the “fog of war.”

Unwilling to allow these soldiers to be defined by their deaths, A Second Knock at the Door explores the men outside of their uniforms, through the eyes of the communities that saw them not only as heroes but as sons, husbands, fathers, fiancés, and friends.

Please bring a friend and join us for the Portland, Oregon premier of A Second Knock at the Door, (free admission) being shown in our multi-purpose room on June 16 at 6:30 pm. Childcare will be provided. There will be food available and a kid-friendly movie shown simultaneously in the children’s area.

Circle of Womenhood – Saturday, May 12 @ 9 am

WHAT is this event? We will celebrate the important bond women have with each other, your soul sister, your daughters, your mother, your sister, aunt, or cousin. We will have a labyrinth warming, a wonderful breakfast, a sharing of stories. We will talk, laugh and pray. Whom do you reach out to with the best news? The sad news? The mundane? Who shares her secrets with you? When you need to talk, whom do you reach out to? If you have lost an important woman in your life, come in her honor. From the joy of discovery seen through the eyes of our young daughters to the wisdom of the family matriarch…..come share…..

Introduction of Our New Senior Minister

March 13, 2012

We are thrilled to announce that on Sunday, March 4, 2012, Portland First

Christian Church congregation members voted to call Amy Piatt of

Pueblo, Colorado as our new Senior Minister. The call came after

unanimous votes of the Search Committee, Executive Committee, Budget

and Finance Committee, the Official Board, and a unanimous vote at the

Congregational meeting.

The call of Amy Piatt and creation of a job position for her talented

and creative husband Christian was the result of 9 months of effort on

the part of the Search Committee interviewing over 40 different

candidates from all over the nation. Christian has been hired as

part-time staff, heading up growth and development at First Christian

Church to help grow the reach and presence of the congregation in the

community.

Amy received her Master of Divinity from Brite Divinity School at TCU.

She and her husband co-founded Milagro Christian Church in 2004 in

Pueblo and she has served as Senior Pastor of that church helping it

grow from only a handful at its beginning to where today there are

between 80 and 120 in worship weekly. Amy described herself in the

ministerial profile she sent our church as “a lover of people, a

prophetic preacher, a motivator, an encourager, and a visionary. I am

willing to speak courageously and I strive to listen actively on

behalf of those I serve.” We are ecstatic to start this relationship

with the Piatt family.

Amy and Christian are the parents of two young children: Mattias, age

8, and Zoe, age 3. Everyone will get better acquainted with Amy and

her family when they move to Portland on June 1 to begin her ministry.

We welcome the entire Piatt family and this beautiful opportunity for

their family, for the congregation, and for the community.
